NVE Inc. is seeking an electronics technician in support of an operations and maintenance (O&M) covering two GSA facilities in the Kansas City Missouri area. The sites are the Richard Bolling Federal Building (601 E. 12th Street) and the Charles Evans Whittaker Courthouse (400 E. 9th Street). The contract will have an initial 16 months with the potential of an additional eight (8) option years.  The electronics technician supports the Chief and Maintenance Electricians to ensure the proper and safe operation and maintenance of the complex electrical systems and subsystems, fire & life safety systems, and mechanical systems; and Operate Building Energy management System (EMS) and associated building controls.

Technician shall have at least four (4) years of experience at the journeyman level obtained within the past seven (7) years in the field of inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, operating and performing preventive maintenance on complex building automation system and fire & life safety systems, and be familiar with operation of complex electrical systems. Journeyman License, NICET, or Equivalent highly desirable for the position. Certification on various building automation systems (i.e., Tridium Niagara, JCI/Metasys, Siemens Apogee, etc.) are a plus.

Job Description

The technician inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs complex electrical, fire & life safety, and building automation systems, and operates and performs preventive maintenance on complex facility systems. The technician may be expected to perform some Certification testing or oversee the execution of certification of said systems by subcontractors to ensure facility Code Compliance (assure compliance with Federal, State and Local safety and health standards).

Candidate must have the following:

  • Experience with fire & life safety systems, building automation systems, and electrical systems.
  • Experience in creating SOP’s, MOP’s, and EOP’s.


  • Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and Company directives related to building operations and work safety.
  • Operates, inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs complex electrical, fire & life safety, and building automation systems in assigned facility to achieve most efficient results. Assures that equipment is being maintained in a safe manner. Minimizes downtime through proactive performance testing and scheduled maintenance.
  • Applies NFPA code to troubleshoot and resolve fire & life safety problems.
  • Maintains the professional appearances of the property, equipment, engineering spaces, and common areas.
  • Performs work in compliance with standard operating procedures and/or critical work packages, and maintenance work instructions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • High School or Equivalent (at a minimum)
  • NICET Certification desirable (must be maintained for continued employment)
  • NFPA 10 Certification desirable
  • OSHA 30 desired
  • An existing HSPD-12 Determination for Work Desired
